November 2007 - Calling all Girls! Guildford City Girls FC is actively looking for Girl Footballers between the ages of 10 and 13 to form at least two teams to participate in League Football. At the moment the existing Girls members are training with a boys age group, but this will be re-organised once the numbers have increased. We are also looking for a Football Coach from the local area who could become the dedicated GCGFC Coach and Manager, working with the Club to strengthen the Girls Soccer group for this and coming seasons. To promote the group GCGFC are not yet charging subscriptions as, at this stage, we cannot offer team football. For all enquiries, please contact Phil Dyas. November 2007 - FREE MEMBERSHIP FOR UNDER 7's! Now here's an offer... GCBFC are pleased to be able to offer free membership to all new budding footballers in the Under 7's age group. In addition, every new player will be given a free training ball so they can practice their skills in between coaching sessions. For more information, please contact Ben Coke or the Club Secretary, Phil Southee. Oct / Nov 2007 - Do you still have some Tesco's Sports Vouchers? If so the Club can certainly put them to good use for the children! Any voucher donations to Angela Springett please, via the clubhouse. Many thanks.
4th August 2007 - GCBFC Under 11 Lions Roar at Tottenham Hotspur Junior Cup! Guildford City Lions U11 entered into the Hotspur Junior Cup which took place at the Metropolitan Police Ground in Chigwell in August. This was a six-a-side tournament in which we entered two teams. It involved players from right across the country, all of whom competed for their age group's cup. The standard of football was excellent throughout the day. The two teams played eight games each with the top two teams being winners and runners-up. The boys played various teams from all over the London area including the Spurs feeder academy team which they beat. One of our teams never lost a game throughout the tournament winning 7 and drawing 1. It was a great achievement with one of our teams winning and the other coming runners-up up. Unfortunately the boys don't get to keep the cup. It is engraved, and they won free entrance to defend their trophy next year. Well done to all that took part.
Junior Team Sports Award The fourth annual Sport Guildford Awards, held at the University of Surrey, was co-hosted by 96.4 The Eagle's Peter Gordon and Chris Bunting, Head of Cultural Services at Guildford Borough Council. It was an evening to celebrate the achievements of Guildford Borough's sporting community with presentations, awards and exhibitions from local clubs of cycling, bowls, sub aqua, cricket and our very own GCBFC. In addition to the presentations from local dignitaries, there was a review of the successful Surrey Youth Games 2007, an informative video presentation on the exciting sports facility expansion plans for the University, and an inspirational address from Anna Hemmings, 5 times World Kayak Champion and Britain's leading female marathon canoeist (pictured with GCBFC reps below left). The Surrey Youth Games provided GCGFC with an opportunity to get involved. Eight Girls qualified for the age group (Years 5 & 6) and were Coached & Managed by Fee Reynolds, our newest level 1 Coach. Of the eight girls, four had never played competitive football before (a fact not missed by Chris Bunting during his presentation!) and the fact they that made to the final to be narrowly beaten by a team of League Under 12's representing Surrey Heath, makes their achievement all the more fantastic. To achieve a silver medal was a great effort and thanks to Fee and the other GCBFC Coaches who helped from time to time.
![]() This is the first time a GCBFC team has been recognised for a sports award by an external body.
