Rebuilding the Sports Pavillion for Tomorrow

[ Entrance to the current clubhouse at Stoughton Recreation Ground ]For the past 10 years the GCBFC has been fortunate to be based at Stoughton Rec. (Worplesdon Road, Guildford).

The facilities are Council owned, but the Pavilion is now over 40 years and is out of date by modern standards, and is unsuitable, at the moment, as a mixed sex changing facility.

It needs to be improved.

Our plans for improvement allow us to take a 25 year lease on the building and will enable us bring this facility up to date and give a much needed face lift to the general area. It will most certainly benefit the Players, Staff and families of GCBFC and, over the next 25 years, will help to promote a high standard of coaching and involvement in sport for many in the locality. In time, it will encourage the wider involvement of other Youth football and sport Clubs in the Guildford area.

As you can see this development project affects hundreds of players, their families, and friends over the next 25 years.

We hope you will want be seen to be involved and recognised for your help or contribution to this worthwhile youth project.

THE PROJECT - To Develop and upgrade a tired facility.

Over recent years, following the guidelines laid down by the FA for improvement in football standards at grassroots level, a plan was drawn up to develop the Pavilion to provide a dedicated lecture facility to improve the expertise of not only our own coaching staff, but to provide opportunities for our young players to take courses in football coaching and to qualify as Referees.

[ The Plans on display within the current facility at Stoughton Recreation Ground ]There is a basic need for a facility in Guildford for lecturing and study in this sport and in the long term, we hope this can be used by all local youth clubs as a base for FA lectures, and possible for other sports and activities during the ‘close’ season.

The high cost of hiring facilities eats into the very tight budgets of many youth groups and it was hoped that the new facility would be made more readily available and at minimal cost.

Unfortunately, as the facility is a changing room site, the FA rules dictate that the changing facilities must first be brought up to date before the provision of a lecture facility can be added as part of the general improvement.

The plans are on display in the current facility at Stoughton Recreation Ground, and everyone is welcome to come and have a look.

The development project for the building will (and must) provide :

  • Improvement of the existing changing rooms, and modesty facilities for boys and girls.
  • Showering and toilet facilities in every changing room.
  • Exclusive shower and toilet facilities for male and female Referees.
  • New female guest facilities.
  • A disabled toilet facility, and better disabled access via ramp and automatic doors.
  • A larger social / lecture area for coaching and meetings.
  • Improved storage space.
  • Upgraded services (Re-wire, mains, etc ).
  • New vandal proof and leak free roof.
As you can see, we're going to need a lot of goods and materials for this!

The improved pavilion will then be state of the art, but not an overstated facility that will see the GCBFC through the next 25 years, provide a facility for ongoing training of players and coaches, and a more secure home for Club players, families and equipment, and an opportunity for use of a wider lecture facility for use by football and other sports clubs.

Over past seasons GCBFC has played and trained over 7500 youth footballers.

In coming seasons, at Stoughton Rec. we hope to be able to coach and provide football for over 10,000 more, but we need this upgrade to see this plan through.

We have over 50 Coaches, Committee, and Helpers, all volunteers who want to continue the work started in 1980 and to continue to develop and encourage a high standard of football in a friendly well run Club where participation is more important than prizes.

If success comes with the pleasure of playing the game, the happier we will be.

The Finance

[ Plans for the new Sports Pavillion at Stoughton Recreation Ground ]The estimated project cost is £250,000, of which GCBFC will be required to raise at least half.

The plans have been passed by the Borough Council, and seen and agreed as acceptable by the National F.A. and Football Foundation, meeting the required development standards for a funding application.

We are hoping that the Football Foundation will provide at least 50% of the development cost leaving GCBFC to find the balance . This contribution does not have to be in wholly in cash however. Our contribution can also be valued in goods supplied, or in kind for supply of professional expertise.

All contributions for the Club project can be valued at true market value and will be regarded as part of the Club’s contribution to the development costs. While some cash will be needed, and any contribution in cash will gratefully received, the value of goods and services will be calculated and added to the ‘fund’.

The Club has already received some offers of materials and trade expertise which will be valued and recognised as part of the GCBFC fund raising effort, but we do need a lot more.

Cash - If you can make a contribution to the general development fund please send it in with this form. With provision of appropriate information it is hoped that your contribution can be treated as one made under ‘Gift Aid’ rules. As GCBFC is registered a Community Amateur Sports Club, we will be able to reclaim Tax from the HMRC (Inland Revenue) and add this to the fund.

In Goods - If you are able to supply goods and materials for the building project, either by donation, at cost, or at a discount, your contribution can be market valued, and will support the GCBFC Club costs. Please use this form to let us know exactly what you can supply, and our Project Fund Manager will contact you independently.

By Trade or Profession - If you can supply your personal qualities and expertise to the project, and we can value your time, this too will help towards our total. Please use this form to let us know.

For Fund Raising - If you are prepared to donate an item for resale, to be auctioned, or Raffled, big or small, your contribution will be gratefully received. Please use this form, thank you.

Finally - In Kind.

If you would like to help in anyway please let us know by contacting one of the Project Committee mentioned below.

We appreciate that you have taken the time to read this through.

Thank You.
